Biography
Adaeze Okonkwo is a Nigerian-American painter whose large-scale works explore themes of migration, memory, and ancestral landscapes. Her layered compositions merge West African textile motifs with abstract expressionist gestures, creating surfaces that vibrate between history and the present moment. She holds an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and has exhibited internationally.
Artist Statement
I paint to remember what the body already knows. Each canvas begins as a conversation with the materials—pigment, cloth, earth—and ends as a threshold between worlds. My work insists on the beauty of survival.
